Montefiore Children’s Hospital

Virtual Tour

The Children’s Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM) is a state-of-the-art medical facility that recasts the idea of what can be achieved in a children’s hospital. It is linked to a network of more than 30 community-based health facilities, including the largest school-based health program in the country, a leading neonatal intensive-care unit, the city’s preeminent child-protection program, and a fleet of mobile medical units. Elaborate artistry is fully integrated into the design of the building, creating an environment that ignites the imagination of the children who come there.

FusionLab created an extensive virtual tour of this facility for CHAM’s website. This online tour had to reflect the high-standards of the medical facilities itself, in terms of user-friendliness, design quality and technological excellence.

The tour takes viewers through the hospital using voiceover, videos, interactive rooms and playful animations. The goals are to: inform families of children in need of medical care about the hospital’s services and benefits; familiarize kids with the premises before they check in; and establish a visual language that extends from the virtual tour to the actual rooms, reducing fear and confusion for these future patients.

An additional strength FusionLab brought to the project was our photographic skills. All photos were taken over the course of several days at the hospital. These photos are key to the success of the virtual tour, and help present and explore the hospital’s unique design, which was inspired by Carl Sagan and his explorations of the cosmos.
